Top Parks in Darlinghurst
Parks are an important part of Australian culture. They are not only for children to play in, but they also provide a great way to relax and enjoy nature. This list compiles with all sorts of parks in mind – from those best suited for kids to those that will give you some peace and quiet. No matter what your mood or age, make sure you take time out of your day to visit one! Read on!
Green Park
This is one of the best parks in Darlington for kids who are looking to play sports. It features both tennis and netball courts, as well as a great grassy area where you can kick around the ball or layout in the sun. The park has some great shade trees, which is important when you’re trying to escape the hot summer sun. There are also public toilets and a playground area with equipment for all ages (including toddlers). The park also features free wi-fi.
O’Brien Lane Reserve
This park is a little hidden gem in Darlington. It’s not as popular as some of the other parks on this list, but it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for somewhere quiet to relax. The reserve features beautiful gardens and plenty of shady areas – perfect for escaping the summer heat. There are also several ponds with ducks and geese, which makes for a great spot to take photos. If you’re feeling adventurous, there’s even a small hill that provides some good views of the surrounding area.
Ronald Shores Park
This park is one of the most picturesque parks in Darlinghurst, NSW. It’s surrounded by stunning buildings, including St Johns Church and the Alexandria Hotel – both built many years ago. The area has a very Victorian feel to it, which makes for some great photos if you’re looking to capture the essence of Sydney during your visit here. This park is also a great place to sit and enjoy the view of Sydney Harbour. The park features some lovely gardens with an abundance of shady trees, as well as picnic tables if you’re looking for somewhere quiet to have lunch.

Hitting the steps up the back was great. Target – 70 reps x up + down = 7 sets aka 1 set = up + down x 7.

My Best Mate and I explored the cemetery grounds for many hours and it was more than rewarding.
Go give them a slow stroll – particularly the graveyard that had to make headstones part of the wall in one. INCREDIBLE evening.

Love this park!!! Don’t have a dog but we love grabbing something to eat nearby and eat it at this nice park while watching the dogs play around :))
Location is quite practical and parking availability is reasonable, note that there are parking meters in place.

This Surry Hills park is a lovely spot for people and dogs. It is known as the dog park in the local area and a great place with a dog or meet dogs! There’s plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by. Nice different sections of the park and it gets plenty of sun. It is sheltered by the buildings so not that windy. Really nice place to hang out and see the locals!

This is a lovely park. It could be a five star. But it lacks a degree of Prince, and I didn’t meet a single Alfred. Also, a few more toilets would be ace. A perfect park, otherwise.

One of the most beautiful parks full stop. Kept immaculately. Great place for a function. Easy access and quiet also. Been going the last 40 years and hopefully at least another 40 years.

This park is beautiful, so much activity is happening around this park. Sports ground, cafe, kids playing area and water pounds etc.
This park is looked after very well by the council. Let me know what you think? Is there any favourite activity?

A small inlet of grass on an elevated platform from the street. Not a really relaxing place as there’s an incredibly busy road nearby. Also it isn’t as accessible as it looks. The lone bench seems pretty clean, but this small patch of grass is probably only good to just walk through.

This is the only park in the surroundings… so most people take their dogs there to poop on the grass – it’s very dirty!
Also, it has one seat available, so if you wanted to spend some time in there, the chances of needing to sit on the dirty grass are high.

Great family friendly park. Only complaint is the height of the “new style safety fencing for the city of Sydney parks” (way too short). Love the new play equipment which is friendly for ages 12 months+ for 6+ plus the baby swing and net-swing is great. Nice balance of shady areas and park benches to enjoy a coffee from Wilson’s or pastries from Bourke St Bakery and/or local cafes – just limited due to COVID. Nice green grass too for the kids to run around, do yoga, have a picnic.

Brand new, shiny, exciting for 5 year olds! And parents who need a rest. Sat opposite the library, the updated park includes a big kids play zone, nicely contained inside a low fence. New trees are planted and will grow to provide shade. No toilet but the library is over the road

What can I say. Fabulous park dog friendly. Off leash certain hours on leash 24/7. I would think most of the residents bring their dogs there each day for exercise. And the view of the bay is an added bonus. The kiosk in the park is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy either a meal, snack, delicious cake and one of the best coffees around or a freshly prepared juice. Of course there are many other selections.

Good for those 32°+ hot days. Lots of shade with a good mix of shaded and sunny benches. Public toilet nearby. Negatives: because it’s so shaded, grass doesn’t grow well and it is too damp to sit on most of the time. High vehicular traffic with bus stop.

Rushcutters is one of those parks that’s always enjoyable. If you go around 5pm on weekdays you’ll get the puppy convention and they’re will be so many puppies around. Major cute vibes.
The outdoor gym is quite good as well.

The Belmore Park is a great place for you to have a stroll down the paved paths and to enjoy the sea of greenery in front of your eyes with a sense of serenity and calmness. It sits right next to the Central of Sydney, which is a transportation hub of the city, making it very much easily accessible by several modes of transportation, either by trains from around and out of the city or by buses running through. The facilities in the Park are well maintained and the atmosphere around it is fairly welcoming. However, you might want to be a little bit more cautious at night, as some parts of it are not well lit up and it’s packed with homeless people sometimes, otherwise it’s all good!

This was a fun park for our 4 year old. We had take-away at a nearby restaurant and walked down to this park to have a play and eat. No picnic tables which was a downer but had plenty of seating via benches and an under tree seating area. It is a dog friendly park and only one dog was there and stayed off of the playground area (like advised from the sign posted). Would for sure go back to this park.

Lovely park right by the water at Double Bay.
Toilet facilities and children’s playground plus a bandstand for rainy days.
Camperdown Cellars on the corner is great for supplies.
There’s a small beach off to the right and the 18 Footers Club is great for a drink or seafood dinner. They also have an outdoor takeaway cafe kiosk which is great for a coffee or bite on the way to the beach or ferry.
Regular ferries to Darling Point and Circular Quay from the wharf.
There’s also the Double Bay sailing club at the foot of the park by the water.
