Kensington NSW
Everything You Need to Know About Kensington, NSW
Kensington is an upper-middle-class suburb in Sydney, Australia. It has a population of over 15,000 people and is located about 15 kilometres from the city centre. Kensington residents are happy with their neighbourhood – it’s leafy, close to schools and shops, and there’s plenty of places to have fun outdoors.
History
This suburb was first established in the late 1800s and was originally called “Redfern Hill”. It was renamed Kensington in 1909 after the London suburb of Kensington.
Originally, this suburb was home to agricultural workers who worked on the surrounding farms. It wasn’t until after World War II that many people began moving into Kensington because of its close proximity to Sydney city and better public transport links.
Kensington, NSW is now a very multicultural part of Sydney, with over 40% of residents born overseas in countries such as China, Lebanon, Vietnam, and Malaysia. The main languages spoken are Chinese (Mandarin), Arabic, and English both at home and at school.
Today
Many teenagers attend schools in nearby suburbs due to a lack of local options for high school students – ranging from religious private girls’ schools like Monte Sant Angelo Mercy College through to more secular choices like Pymble Ladies’ College or Abbotsleigh School for Girls.
Many local students go on to study at the University of New South Wales and other nearby campuses such as Macquarie University, Sydney Technical College, or Randwick TAFE college for a degree in fields like business, law, and healthcare. Kensington is also home to many educational institutions offering English classes aimed at migrants – these are often run by migrant women’s groups who want their families to learn about Australian culture while improving their language skills.
The area has several religious centres including Catholic churches St Thomas Aquinas Parish church, Our Lady Help Of Christians R C Church Hall & Greek Orthodox Holy Cross Cathedral. There’s even an active Buddhist community with its own temple located near Redfern station!
Parks and Leisure
There are several parks in Kensington that provide facilities for sporting activities, picnics, and barbecues. The most popular park is Hyde Park which has outdoor gym equipment for adults to use while kids can play on the playground or skateboard ramps!
Kensington Leisure Centre is located next door to this amazing public space – it offers a 25 metre pool with a spa, sauna, and steam rooms plus the usual fitness classes like body attack & yoga. This local swimming centre also runs special programs in summer such as “drop-in” swim times when parents can come along to supervise their children every week of school holidays (times vary).
Other sports clubs include soccer club Eastern Suburbs Football Association, cricket teams Eastern Suburbs District Cricket Club and Kensington-Malabar Rovers, netball clubs Kuringgai Netball Association and UNSW Pirates plus a judo club that has been going since the 1960s!
Kensington is also home to many festivals each year including Easter celebrations for Greek Orthodox residents, Lebanese cultural days at Kingsford Smith Oval in spring & autumn as well as Cambodian New Year.

I have been attending the AMS Redfern for over 30 years. Today after almost 2 years not being able to go due to Covid i went to get some long overdue health issues dealt with. After a two hour wait to see the only Dr available i was shuffled in and out in around 5 mins after Dr said she world have to finish with a phone consultation because there other clients for her to see. Not good enough AMS perhaps because it’s a medical service you should concentrate on hiring Dr’s instead of general staff. Duty of care is seriously missing from the AMS these days

Went there in the 80s with my indigenous husband and children.
They were fine when my husband was around but totally rude and nasty if I went there by myself.
Eventually was told not to come back.
I enquired to whom made this rule and was told that a lady called May O’Grady said so.
Never came back with my kids included a severely disabled child.
Hope things have improved.

I don’t often give poor reviews but I think this is warranted. The practitioners and services are excellent, but receptionist team have really poor customer service. Wait times are long, none seem enthused or willing to help. For a UNSW service they should really do better for students.

If I could give a 0 I would. I’ve always had terrible customer service here. No compassion and clearly no idea how to run a student health service. Today I called for an appointment and was asked, am I sick? No, I just want to have beers with the doctors…of course I’m sick why would I be calling a health service for an appointment with a doctor? I was calling for an urgent appointment. When I asked if they offered walk ins, they said no…not for “that”. Cool…sorry I don’t have the correct medical condition. My father runs a health service at another group of 8 University and it is so blatantly clear to me that this health service needs a complete overhaul. Clearly not run with any effective management. If you need his consulting services (you clearly do), hit me up.

Dr Ullman is a great doctor. The reception lady I just spoke to on the phone was absolutely disustingly rude. Wouldn’t let me talk and hung up on me. She should be fired 😤👎

I would give no stars for this Dr. Ullman but for the purpose of making this review I needed to give him 1.
This doctor is disrespectful, insensitive and abusive.
My poor mother (who refuses to be named) is over 50+ years and has heart and health problems has come to me crying from her experience with this doctor. Dr. Ullman has embarrassed and physically abused my mother by tearing her letter request from the pharmacist and scrunched it in a ball before throwing it directly at her – well aware that she has a defibrillator in her chest.
That was highly unprofessional as a doctor and not to mention highly rude as a human being.
There is no excuse for his behaviour and I would like to warn everybody before they consider going there.
All I can do is leave a review but I hope everyone is careful.

I saw Dr Ullman the day after seeing Dr Nashed. Dr Nashed was lovely with my 2 year old he had injured his leg and she said it was unlikely it was fractured but to monitor and see a doctor again the next day. She wasn’t in the next day and Dr Ullman saw us. He was the most unprofessional doctor I have ever met. He saw that my son could not walk but put it down to being mollycoddled by me, his opinion was no fracture and I had to ask ask for an xray referral as I knew my son was upset and I was worried as he refused to put pressure on the leg. He then gave me a referral for an xray just “for mum” in his words rather than actually caring for the patient. I went to emergency that evening and my son got an xray and cast for a undisplaced tibia fracture.
Only go to this centre to see Dr Nashed. I will also be making a formal complaint.

It’s best to find a better Medical Centre. Only post a review like this after multiple incidents but the most recent one was for a service they couldn’t provide. Tried using their online scripts which they charge $20 and had to use PayPal for payment. Then when they couldn’t provide and offered to refund, I could only do it back in the Centre. Lucky I was going there already now for the script but instead of $20 they only refunded $12 due to paypal fees? How is that the consumers fault if they are the ones who couldn’t provide the service and offered the refund? Other things included regular doctors leaving and not updating. Doctors selecting patients and even refusing to see patients after seeing them and blocking them from booking on online platform and abrupt front desk staff with little empathy or understanding for others. All in all best to find another local medical centre.

I have been attending this medical practice for a number of years. Dr Lee Lim and Dr Diep are fantastic. The two stars are for them.
My issue is with the rude reception staff (a common complaint for this practice) and the abrasive practice manager Stephen. I’ve always been willing to put up with this because the doctors are so great.
However, the treatment of patients by particular reception staff has become progressively worse, and I have reached my limit. I am always kind and courteous with them, but they don’t seem to reciprocate.
They need to be reminded that they are supporting a medical practice where sick and vulnerable people come seeking help to get better. They either don’t understand this…or don’t care.
I have moved to a new medical practice as a result.

Booked an appointment to see a doctor this morning. it was easy to do including filling in a personal details form online in advance so it was all done when I arrived.
High levels of covid safety, the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The doctor was great and helped me out. If I lived in Sydney I’d be happy to have them as my local regular medical service

Honestly very disappointed by the experience we had here. I will say that the front desk staff were very friendly throughout, but the experience was sorely lacking. The doctor literally completed the entire 30-second “consultation” from the doorway (he didn’t even walk into the consultation room), so none of our questions were answered.
As for the follow up tele-health “consultation”, he started the call by asking us (the patient) what the call is about as though he had no clue about it. Then he had to ask us why we had booked the blood test in the first place (despite already telling him and providing documents explaining the situation). A complete lack of interest and awareness of the patient is utterly shocking, I’ve never experienced that with a doctor before.
Unfortunately there are also gap payments required, so it isn’t fully bulk billed as it is advertised, nor were these fees mentioned until after consultations.

This a new very professional medical centre that I highly recommend to the community. Especially during the pandemic, from the front desk staff to the doctors and nurses will extremely helpful and went of their way to assist the patients with their questions, and run the vaccine program like experts. I was a nurse turned international educator so definitely can tell a great medical centre!

I have used Synapse for medical billing and transcription services. I must say they are the best in this field. The app interface is very user friendly and I never had any problems. It greatly helped in improving my efficiency as I didn’t need to chase any billing issues and transcriptions turnaround time was less than 24 hours. I am happy with their service and would strongly recommend them.

They don’t deserve not even a star. Don’t go there as a new patient it’s not worth it. The desk staff is ok I guess, but the front foyer looks like an Armageddon scenario, with a yellow tape stretched between two office chairs half a meter away from the desk and face screens. You need to stretch uncomfortably just to hand them your ID! After a twenty minute ritual and waiting, finally I went in to see a “doctor”. Kayleiny or something, rude, zero interest or compassion, after only five minute she tells me to hurry up… Shame on you, she looks like an old witch, did not want to help me… It’s a bloody outrage. God help her patients, she is a witch doctor.

I just give a call for fir for travel statement and the receptionist is so rude. The first time I call she said they are not doing while the second one she connected me to one of the doctors and doctors said it’s all good, I can book my appointment. Once I was transfered back to receptionist to do the booking she ask me to do pcr swab test even I just recovered from covid 7 days ago. Is she is not knowledgable or she really inexperienced?! You never asked someone who positive covid to do the pcr within 30 days. Then I just give a call to maraoubra medical centre and how shockingly the service are. She explain me whole process to the fit for travel and secure my booking. Shame on you Kingsford Medical Centre

I can attest that there are usually issues and mix-ups with the receptionists. Aside from that I’ve been seeing Dr. Cindy Chen since moving to Zetland and she’s always been informative and perceptive to anything else I should look into that’s pertinent to my case or any other general matters of my age. I want to express my absolute disappointment in regards to Dr. Q. I requested them to do something really simple which they promised they would. I sent email explaining all the details, I rang them up to remind them & I even went there personally to ask for help, but nothing has been done. If they had no intention to do so, they should’ve just said no instead of making empty promises. I’m not a new patient here. I’ve been going here for nearly a decade. so for this medical staff to not do what they promised is a deal breaker for me. I couldn’t wait any longer so I went to a different medical centre. Everything I requested was done within 10 minutes right there & then. I looked up my profile on my gov & every update was recorded there, so it proved that it wasn’t even something that would’ve taken ages. I felt that they were just being lazy even though what I requested was actually a follow-up of a procedure that they did themself years ago.

I have a number of complex health issues, and because of this, I’ve seen plenty of Dr’s in my 52 years.
I figure this makes me as good a judge as any.
Dr Hasnani has only ever expressed genuine concern in my problems and she has one of those memories for crazy detail.
I couldn’t be happier with the attention she’s given me and I wouldn’t even dream of needing to chase an alternative!
She’s absolutely worth 5 stars!

Visited Dr Omar Salem today for some script renewals and to join a new practice. First impressions count for everything. The location struck me as being unusual for a Medical Centre, however it’s refreshing to not be going to a practice on a busy road. There’s a nice vibe about the Cannery in general which made the experience a definite positive. Dr. Omar Salem is probably one of the nicest doctors I’ve ever met. He wasn’t rushing to get me out for his next appointment and took the time to get to know me. On top of this the practice manager / receptionist (?) was welcoming, efficient and all up a lovely person to welcome me into the centre. I’ll definitely be keeping Dr Omar Salem as my GP moving forward.

I’m conflicted! Some of the doctors are great, others I found rude, patronising, belittling and dismissive of any new information. Glad I’ve found a caring GP that actually calls to discuss test results and after hospital discharge. However, they are always, always late. And not just a little bit, today my appointment started about 50 minutes late and that’s normal. Good to have the pathology collection office on-site too.
