Millers Point NSW
Everything You Need to Know About Millers Point
Millers Point, a suburb in the City of Sydney’s local government area is small. It is sometimes mistakenly thought that it belongs to The Rocks. Residents are disappointed and insist to recognize its distinct history and its development. The area was not settled by many people before 1830. It remained isolated for decades, accessible only via scrambling up The Rocks and around Point Maskelyne. This was later changed to Dawes Point by William Dawes, who established an observatory in 1830s Europe. Many Aboriginals used his house as a place to meet and share their knowledge of the language and culture. This promontory received the official dual names of Tar-Ra and Dawes Point in the 21st century.
In 1788, a flagstaff was placed on this high ground. In 1797, the first official government windmill was constructed here. After the 1804 rebellion by Irish political prisoners held at Castle Hill, work on a fort began. The hill was also known as the Flagstaff Hill (or Windmill Hill) or Fort Philip until it was given its present name, Observatory Hill. This was followed by the 1858 construction of an observatory.
There were also other windmills that appeared. Three of them were constructed on land at the most extreme point facing Cockle Bay after 1815. They belonged to John Leighton (formerly a convict), and were the inspiration for the Millers Point name. It was called Coodyee by the locals who lived there for many thousands of years.
Outcrops of sandstone were used as building materials in Sydney. The little streets that formed Millers Point gradually emerged from the Flagstaff Hill’s edges. Kent Street and Argyle Place are now fronted by high cliffs.
The area was home to a new military hospital built by the government at the Flagstaff Hill’s rear in 1815. However, Millers Point, NSW had only a few houses left in the 1820s. Sydney Cove had become too small and so wharves were built along with older boatbuilding yards to the west of Dawes Point. In the 1830s the deep waters of Walsh Bay were home to the buoyant (if not odorous) whaling industry. Long after the industries died, however, this area continued to be a hub for maritime commerce with China and the Pacific. Stories of smuggling, shanghai-ing and other urban legends arose from this area. There were secret tunnels linking pubs and the waterfront that allowed for the covert movement of overproof rum, unwilling sailors and any other items needed to avoid official detection. The terrain became lightly populated by the 1840s, when workers’ cottages were located near the wharves. Fine houses built by wharf merchants and owners adorned the high streets. Millers Point was still far from its neighbor, The Rocks, and access to the town was difficult. This was reduced and accessibility improved after the Argyle cut in 1846, which removed the highest rocks.

If there was a zero star I would rate this practice a zero star due to the incredibly poor customer service provided by the receptionist.
My partner and I made an appointment via the online booking system for a phone consult. We did not know that we would not qualify for bulk billing on phone consult as there was no prompts provided when we booked. 5mins before before my partners appointment and 5mins after my appointment we received a call from the practice informing us that we were not eligible to have our phone consults under bulk billing.
We tried to ask what options are available and provide feedback on how this process could be improved.
The receptionist promptly hung up on me. Clearly they don’t care about the experience of their patients nor about continuous improvement.
I would not recommend anyone to visit this practice. Ever again.

Booked via healthengine for a covid-19 vaccine booster. Was expecting chaos after reading reviews but couldn’t have gone smoother. Young man at reception was polite and efficient, all info I entered online was reflected in their records. I was given clear directions to the treatment room, where I was straight in on time for my 4pm appointment. Friendly nurses who went through the checks and disclaimers then delivered the vaccine swiftly. Waiting my 15 minutes now then off. Easy and no fuss.

The worst clinic I have visited in my entire life.
Stuff are really rude and negative. I can understand people are experiencing a difficult time particularly stuff in medical field.
But there is no reason for customer of ur clinic to pay for it.
More importantly. U ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GET VACILLATED HERE IF U DO NOT HAVE MEDICARE!!!
I got no notification about this until I had been waiting one month for my booster.

This medical centre is exceptional. They use all the latest technology, so are incredibly efficient, as well as flexible and helpful. The doctors are fantastic- nothing is too much hassle and they make you feel very comfortable. Highly recommend.

Efficient, fast, on time, knowledgeable and compassionate staff. My daughter just got her Covid jab here and they were lovely, made it a very easy process while being kind to my girl. Will definitely be back for more than just vaccinations.

Great experience. I had to see a doctor in the city to address an ear ache and the experience from booking to completion was outstanding. The Doctor was very good and the premises / facilities were comfortable and very Covid safe. Thank you

I attended for a Covid booster jab. The receptionist, doctor and nurse were very friendly. The waiting room was comfortable. The doctor clearly explained the possible side effects of the Pfizer vaccine? The only negative was the waiting time. I arrived on time and left one hour later. Never the less it was a positive experience overall and I’m very pleased to have received the booster shot.

I first went to see Dr Tanusha Hossain in 2017 when i first moved to Sydney. I am proud to say that she is still my family doctor and would like her to be so. She is highly competent, knowledgeable, proactive and compassionate. I completely trust her and her referrals. She listens without rushing and is will spend as long as required to make her patients feel comfortable and at ease. I highly recommend her. I referred a friend of mine to Dr Hossain who is very fussy (just like me) and my friend also loved it. I have lived in various countries and seen many doctors but I must admit Dr Hossain is the best doctor i have ever had and i am fortunate to have found her.

First and last time in this practice. I went to see Doc. Subhash for a routine skin cancer check and was told I had a dysplastic mole on my back that could have already turned cancerous and needed removal and biopsy. I was told to book a second appointment with him for skin cancer removal.
I was taken aback by this diagnosis and sought a second opinion from a dermatologist in a different practice. I was told by the dermatologist that the mole is perfectly normal in shape, size and colour, that there is absolutely nothing to be worried about, and that it certainly doesn’t need removal.
It is obvious that Doc. Subhash is either incompetent or unethical. Without the second opinion I would have been left with a lot of stress and a scar on my back for absolutely no reason.
The behaviour and/or competence of this doctor is dangerous and could potentially put his patients at risk. I have no choice but to report it to the Medical Board of Australia.

This place doesn’t offer booster for none-Medicare holders (even if you have IHI), but it’s booking system still allows people without Medicare book through, which is wired. However the receptionist has been helpful. She provided a printed version of a list of places nearby that may offer booster for people without Medicare which helped me find another suitable place to get my vaccine. I rate 0/5 for their booster booking system, but wanna give extra 2 stars for their helpful backups.

I have been going to this medical centre for over 20+ years. Both reception staff and nurses are friendly and helpful. Even when the centre no longer bulk billed, I still go to this medical centre because my doctor is excellent and very caring. The wait is not as long as before as well since they have gone private.

Dr Sophia has been my GP for 8+ years. She is a wonderful person, very knowledgeable and will take the time to sit with you to discuss any issues. I would still travel the hour from my home to deal with Sophia. She has a caring nature and and is generally concerned for her patients. I can only speak highly of my experiences with her.
I wish Sophia all the best over Christmas and the New Year.
Thank you Sophia.
All the best.
Clay.

I have had a really terrible experience with them. First of all, the doctor is always late – very unprofessional. Second, I had visited him for my skin related problem, well that did not go away at all and instead he asked me to do some irrelevant blood and ultrasound tests. I paid a lot for that, paid for the medicines – and no recovery at all! Also, when asked to explain the results of the blood tests, he would email a few pdfs and would ask us to read those without explaining a single thing! Wasted a lot of time and money visiting him. Such an professional and non-cooperative doctor.

I went to the clinic to see Dr Green for a biopsy on a mole on my scalp. Can I just say, his assuring, friendly and empathetic persona truly helps soothe my anxiety towards the procedure. Before he performed the biopsy, he walked me through the process, gladly answered all my questions, and reassured me that I won’t feel a thing (and I didn’t!). My tip for those who are nervous is to bring your headphones with you so you can watch videos/listen to music during the procedure. In all, I would highly recommend everyone to Dr Green for your skin check/biopsy, he’s truly a remarkable doctor! Bravo!!

I have been going to O’Connell St Clinic for 20 years since it was previously at the Gateway Building. The reason I keep going here is because of the staff and also the fact that the clinic is extremely professional and always runs on time. The staff are lovely, the reception staff are always friendly and extremely helpful they are a credit to the clinic. I have been seeing Dr James Chesworth, Dr Polly Chan and Dr Gemma Kim for all this time. They all very thorough, caring and wise people. They always takes time to explain things, rather than rush through and I feel listened to. I’ve had to occasionally go to other clinics and they are no way as good. Thank you everyone at O’Connell Street for providing such an excellent service.

Possibly the best Doctor I’ve ever been to. My doctor was Monisha who literally spent every second assigned to me. I was not rushed out and anything I had asked was explained in great detail before I left my appointment. I felt really comfortable with her and informed – Will use this Doctor moving forward.

The best doctors ever. The nurse is unbelievably lovely. All the receptionists are amazing and happy to work with you with any problems. The girls (plus one guy) all want to help and seem happy to be there, even if I call minutes before closing! Dr Chad always takes a few seconds to greet me in his very busy day even if I’m not there to see him . He seems to take great care of his staff and holds them to a very high standard, and he picked very well! Everyone is quite young and it just makes the whole place very approachable and less intimidating being a young adult myself. The level of professionalism is something I haven’t seen anywhere else. Not to mention the place is kept clean, modern and tidy. It also sits right next to Woolworths metro. Super easy to walk to especially from train station. I am so grateful this place exists!!
